One of the coastal settlements on the southern side of the island, on the foot of the highest hill, Vidova gora. Bol is also the biggest tourist center of the island because of its world famous beach - Zlatni rat. There are also many sand beaches in the nearby coves (Martinica, Blaca, Konjska, etc.). The place was inhabited already in the antiquity (finds of coins, inscriptions, pottery, the Early Christian sarcophagi, the remains of the Roman water reservoir). The fragments of the wattle-work ornaments in the church of St. Ivan (probably from the 11th century)and the remains from the Old Croatian period were also found in the wall of the Dominican monastery. On the promontory Glavice is the church of the Dominican monastery founded in 1475. The monastery has collection of cultural and art objects (paintings, manuscripts, old coins, incunabulas).
